Hunting Lions? No, Lines.
8:59 PM , September 29, 2011 0

This weekend I went with my youngest daughter on a sort of photo safari. She’s taking photography in college and her professor gave her an assignment to capture lines. The catch—no perspective. She had to be parallel to the lines. Well I thought this was a great assignment and decided to tag along. We had [...]

It’s been a busy week already, so not much time to keep up with the blog. I thought I would at least share some more shots from my recent trip to San Francisco and Alkatraz. I hope you like them.

A rare Sunday post
4:20 PM , September 25, 2011 0

Happy Sunday to everyone. I hope your day has been a restful one. My Sunday definitely has been a full today. The day started with a jog and walking Emma the wonder dog. Then we were off to church. The featured image today is of our church — First United Methodist Church of Grapevine. I [...]

Muir Woods
10:44 AM , September 24, 2011 0

Just a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge is a small gem called Muir Woods. It’s home to giant redwoods, wildlife and lots of Northern Californians on a holiday weekend. Our visit was a crowded one on Labor Day Weekend. It felt like half of San Francisco had decided to visit the day we [...]

Musical Chinatown
2:16 PM , September 22, 2011 0

I don’t think of music when I think of Chinatown. But, here was a person playing on a street corner in San Francisco and it really added to the ambience of the scene. I especially like the mother and son stopping as if listening to the music. It’s just a nice little slice-of-life moment from [...]

A dome ceiling worthy of Neiman Marcus
12:39 PM , September 21, 2011 0

Okay, this is actually a dome ceiling in Neiman Marcus San Francisco. Pretty dramatic entry, huh? This dome was saved from the old building at the city’s request and reinstalled during the renovation for the Neiman’s store. I think they made the right decision. I wish more cities would save old, interesting and culturally significant [...]

The otherside of the Golden Gate
8:27 AM , September 20, 2011 0

A quick post today of the underside of The Golden Gate Bridge as seen from historic Fort Point. It was very windy, which it is most of the time. This is a handheld HDR. Just to prove you can take HDR handheld and it turn out fine, thanks to the latest software. Software: Photomatix Pro, [...]

A little religion in San Francisco

There are some lovely church buildings in San Francisco. Of course, many of them have been converted to other uses. Doesn’t seem to be a high degree of church attendance in the area, but we did find one small Catholic church with its doors opened for mass. It was beautiful. Here’s a shot or two [...]

Say
6:54 PM , September 18, 2011 0

On our trip to San Francisco, we stayed at a small hotel called The White Swan Inn. It was a very quaint establishment. Just twenty or so rooms on four floors and an old style parlor on the ground floor. It was in the parlor and library where the wine and cheese reception was held [...]

Surprising tranquil ocean views
9:37 PM , September 16, 2011 0

I like this shot. The peaceful building perched on a cliff overlooking a tranquil bay. Looks like it could be a peaceful village in France or part of a monastery in Italy. Well, it’s not either. This lovely scene is in California. Not Santa Barbara or Monterey, it’s San Francisco. The bay to be exact. [...]
